The keel is up
The Diana kit has arrived, the parts are numbered, and by the end of day one the keel is standing with the bulkheads sitting loose in it.

The first bulkhead has been faired off the keel, Piet's method, but the forum is unanimous: glue first, then fair and check with a fairing batten.

Keel and bulkheads are joined; the false deck serves as a test piece for deck planking and promptly delivers the first lessons about splinters and caulking seams.

Piet teaches me to pre-sand strips with 320 grit, a glued-in bulkhead has to come out again, and at the sternpost bulkhead 14 doesn't touch the fairing batten.

Stern frames 26 and 27 stick out above the aftermost bulkhead; I choose to build up the bulkhead, which turns out to be a mistake the next day.

Piet corrects me: don't build up the bulkhead but fair the stern frames down to it; repaired, and stern frame 24 placed square.

Balsa blocks and tanganyika ordered from Cornwall Model Boats, where the kit came from too, and the plan to cut wood with my wife's cutting plotter.
The cutting plotter does cut through wood, but rounds the corners and shifts a few millimetres: the margin plank will be done by hand after all.

During a long summer break I'm already thinking about patina on the 2500 copper plates; the forum advises simply letting them dull down.
The inner bulwark is on (with a slight kink at bulkhead 13); the upper deck won't fit because the bulwark is too long, which is solved by shortening it.

The upper deck is pinned in place and the first balsa filler blocks are in the bow; Piet warns that the balsa must not sit lower than the bulkheads.

On Hans Groenenberg's advice the balsa at the stern was glued in roughly first and only then filed; according to Piet the bow line can only be checked with a batten.

After almost three months at a standstill all the balsa filler blocks are on and the first two strips of the first planking are in place.

The gunports on the starboard side have been marked out at 1.2 inches, after 30 and 31 mm went wrong at bulkhead 5; 1.2 inches is 30.48 mm.
