Build log · Phase 12, Upper deck guns

The guns are finished

29 September 2024 · Milestone · Problem and fix

It took a while, but the guns are finally finished. The carronades are rigged and in place. Somehow I used rope and blocks one size larger for the carronades than for the guns. Oh well. At least they are now fixed in place.

Belfry, version 2

The only other thing I have done is to make the belfry anew. I found it looked a bit odd after all, with that overhang over the forecastle and the notched grating. So I made everything a size smaller, so that it does fit on the deck. And turned it through a quarter turn, as Jan already pointed out last year, so that the bell can be rung from the deck below. For that there is now a small rope hanging down from the clapper.

Belfry version 2: smaller, turned through a quarter turn, with a rope from the clapper down to the deck below

With that, well over two and a half years after starting in January 2022, all the upper deck guns are done: ten 9-pounders and the carronades, all rigged. On to the next thing.
