The third mast coat and the first bitts

12 October 2021

And the third mast coat, the one on the quarterdeck where the first attempt failed hopelessly, is finished as well. Although I have never actually seen it done this way on a model, I rather like it. Just a bit different. This is the smallest of the three; the wedges are not really visible here any more. But I am happy with it as it is.

With that, all three masts have a coat and I can move on to the bitts that go by the masts on the upper deck. The first one is finished, or at least it is now in its first coat of paint. I did not use the posts from the kit, but I did use the material that sat between the posts. That made it easier to reduce the housing in the post. I felt the horizontal cross piece sat too deep in it, so I have now let it in just a fraction, but firmly fixed with pin points. The shape is based on the bitts on the Victory. I found those just a bit nicer than those plain posts.
