Mast coat in wind and weather
The score had meanwhile risen to 5-1 (Hans Groenenberg added his weight to it), so that was clear enough. And yet. I liked the right-hand one myself too, only it did not yet give me the feeling of a real ‘coat’. So I have now based myself on the Victory’s masts as they stand in wind and weather, so to speak.

With the proviso that I have left the wedges somewhat visible after all. Up close it looks a bit messy, but from a little distance it gives exactly the effect I was after. Satisfied for now, then. Two to go!
The black coat, incidentally, has moved to the gun deck. As it happened, the ring there had come loose, so I could replace it nicely. Hardly anything of it can be seen, so I could not take a suitable photo of it.
That same evening the coat for the mast on the forecastle deck was finished. To get rid of the frayed edges at the top I worked in a piece of thread and folded the cloth around it. That way the edge is no longer frayed.

Now the one on the quarterdeck. The first attempt failed hopelessly, but it will surely come right.
