Stanchions for the ladderway, first attempt
Two evenings spent making stanchions for the ladderway. First I used those wretched satay skewers again, but that really is rubbish wood. No success, then. Luckily I still had a great many round sticks lying around that were a bit too thick, and after thinning them down I was, after many attempts, reasonably happy with the result.
The stanchions from the kit are those brass pins without any shape at all, so I did not really consider them an option.

They are standing loose for now, just for show, because on Saturday there has to be something to look at in Hillegom after all. Whether I really find them nice enough, I do not know yet. The rope could surely be much better too. On Saturday I will pick up some inspiration from how others have solved this.
Pingu57 noticed that the two stanchions at the front of the ladderway could stand a little straighter. True, I still have to line them up properly. I think I will glue a pin point into the bottom, so I can pin them down. Herby63 thought them quite presentable (the fact that they are not entirely identical is exactly what shows it is handwork) and offered, with no obligation, to bring some small columns in various sizes to Hillegom. I have those lying around myself, but I still need them for something else. I am going for the home-made ones anyway. It is precisely the satisfaction of making them yourself, and that they are not identical really only shows in the photo.
