Thicker uprights, with wedges between them
With the third head I had already announced that I wanted to experiment with the small vertical elements: twice as thick, and then use half as many. So this evening I made a start on the thicker vertical uprights. No idea what they are called; Piet calls them cleats or chocks. The ring the head now sits on still has to move up, to 1.5 mm above the deck, so that the top of the vertical part of the uprights runs on exactly. Getting them evenly spaced is going to be a job in itself. I think I like this better than the narrow versions, but let’s wait and see once it is completely finished.

Two days later the horizontal wedges were in between: the cross pieces that connect the uprights to each other, as can be seen in the photo from The Anatomy of the Ship. Fiddly work, especially since the top ones are only 1 mm thick. It still needs some finishing, but it is starting to look like something.
