New blocks and hooks from Germany
The new blocks are in. The ones from Syren were sold out, so I found others: self-assembly blocks from model-shipyard.com. In the first photo the blocks from Syren, below them those from model-shipyard.

Assembling them yourself is a real hassle. In the end I grabbed my daughter’s craft glue, which she used twelve years ago when she still did crafts, and that actually worked fine. I am pleased with the result, and I quite like the colour too.
Herby63 asked whether the hooks on the guns came with the kit. No, they come from England, from Cornwall Model Boats (Futtock Strop, item A4406_01). I still find them a bit big and have therefore ordered other hooks from Germany, in the hope that they are smaller. Herby63 would like a photo with a comparison, and did not think he was the only one. I will see to that.
On 21 October the hooks from Germany came in. They come on photo-etched sheets with matching rings, four sizes in total. In the photo the smallest and the second smallest variant.

Pingu57 remarked that slightly larger hooks do make hooking on the tackle easier. I will experiment with that some more. They are mainly for the upper deck: the gun carriages there are even smaller than on the gun deck, so there I can no longer get away with those ‘big’ hooks. Those would really be out of proportion, I fear. But the upper deck will not be until sometime next year.
