Replacing the strip, and a start on the head

13 October 2019 · Problem and fix

The strip above the copper

Before starting on the head, I did after all replace the 1 mm strip above the copper plates. Piet remarked that it really caught the eye, and that was absolutely true. I briefly tried whether I could darken the strip, but soon abandoned that idea. So in the end I removed both strips again and cut two new strips on the table saw from the same wood the hull is planked with. Now there is no colour difference at all any more. I am pleased, and on the forum it was called a big improvement: you hardly see the strip any more, it blends into the hull.

A start on the head

Meanwhile I have started on the head. That is said to be quite a job, so I am beginning cautiously with the first parts against the stem, everything still dry fitted. That way I can see how the parts line up with the mouldings before any glue is involved.
