The mouldings at the bow

6 October 2019 · Milestone

The mouldings at the bow are finally on too. Quite a job, because there is a considerable curve in them and the mouldings have to stay more or less parallel. I believe that worked out reasonably well. I laid them around the bow in one piece, like the top moulding last week. I think I would have got them onto the hull less neatly in separate pieces.

Piet thought they were fitted neatly, but did have a question: whether I had allowed for the catheads, whose supporter runs on into the headrails. Erm, no. But I have very sharp blades, so that will surely work out. According to Piet it can be done this way too, and it even has an advantage: the mouldings then always line up with each other. In his own photo there is a tiny difference in the top moulding, although the anchors and rigging later hide it from view. The same goes for the hole for the bowsprit later on. There are many things to take into account before you fit something, and this model is certainly not an easy one to build. That last bit I can confirm by now.
