Port side finished

9 February 2019 · Milestone · How-to

Port side finished at last. It took a while longer because of other things going on, but after two months it is done. Removed all the glue residue with Alabastine sticker remover and then gave it a good scrub with fine steel wool. I am pleased with the result, at least for a first attempt. The glue residue is easy to find as the copper darkens, and after the steel wool the whole side is the same colour again. Jaques thought that despite my “teething troubles” it had been worth it, and I agree.

Now for the starboard side. My stock of plates has shrunk rather faster than intended: I am already well past halfway through it, with a whole side still to go. I asked Piet whether his offer from the end of December still stood, otherwise I would order them from England. A promise is a promise, said Piet: number and address in a private message and it will be sorted.
