All mouldings gold
Piet wondered whether the whole thing wouldn’t look better if I made the yellow mouldings gold-coloured as well. A matter of taste, of course, but all the ‘yellow’ ornaments in a single colour seemed better to him, and in his view the gold looks slick.
I think he’s right. I thought I had based the yellow ochre on Sea Life in Nelson’s Time, but after re-reading what Masefield writes about it, the penultimate sentence in particular suggests that gold was also used for the rails.

Luckily it’s easy to mask off, so I took the plunge. One more day of work first, then holidays.
In the evening I followed Piet’s tip. Now all the mouldings are gold too. It has indeed become more of a whole.

Left-hand gallery and transom are now finished. The ornaments for the right-hand side arrived today too, so tomorrow I can finish the right-hand gallery.
