Galleries on, and then blue
Both quarter galleries are on. Only the decoration on the right is still missing, because there were two left-hand sets in the box. I’ve already been in touch with the supplier today and they’re sending a new set. I’ve also made up my mind about the colour: the galleries and the transom are going to be blue.

First another question for Piet. In his log I saw that he fitted the ornaments on the transom fairly late, whereas the manual has you fit them now, after painting of course. I wanted to know whether I’d run into trouble somewhere later on. Piet: you won’t run into trouble, you can fit the ornaments whenever you like.
Painting
So the next evening I started painting. Everything masked off and, I think, three coats of blue in total. A bit daft of me to paint the transom as well, though. Walnut sheets still have to go on there, so that was for nothing.

I also had a first go at painting the window frames white. That’s quite a job. I think it will take a good five coats before it starts to look anything like white.

Now to think about the window panes. In Piet’s log I saw various tips: he used thin, stiff paper that he painted and lightly sanded. I also saw a tip about tracing paper, but I’m not familiar with that. In any case the windows can’t stay transparent, because the stern frame supports sit behind them. That’s a bit odd. Suggestions are welcome, I don’t yet know how I’m going to tackle it.
