Seven strips a side

11 March 2018

After the Christmas holiday the yard was closed for two months. Today, at last, I could do something on the first planking again: seven strips on each side, twelve in total now, counting from the first two that went on at the end of December. It all still needs sanding, so it looks very untidy.

At the sternpost I think I still have a small problem with the length of the strips. I fear a few of them at the sides are slightly too short, but I’ll sort that out later.

Otherwise it seems to be going reasonably well so far. A few strips I’ve tapered (cut narrower towards the end, so that they don’t overlap each other at the bow) and there is now one stealer in: a wedge-shaped filler piece at the sternpost, where the space between two strakes would otherwise become too wide for a single strip. It does take a lot of time, but luckily there’s plenty of that.
