Linings in and the first coat of red ochre
At last all the linings are in. This afternoon I hope to get some paint on, and then sadly the holiday is over and the yard closes for a while.

Before painting I first sanded everything as smooth as possible, so that later on I need to come near the paint with sandpaper as little as possible. It immediately looks a lot tidier.

Then the colour. I know colours in photos are deceptive, but in real life too the colour I’m using looks a lot browner than the red I see in other people’s photos. I’m using red ochre from the Admiralty paint set, the only red in the set. I’m as colour-blind as they come, so better to check twice than paint four times. There’s only one coat on now and it doesn’t quite cover yet.

Piet used the same paint and assured me that it’s red, not brown. His tip for Admiralty paints: two thin coats. Don’t try to get the first coat to cover, because then you paint too thick and the end result is less attractive. So I’m fine after all, luckily. A second coat is needed in any case; this doesn’t cover by a long way.
