The gun deck is finished
The gun deck is finally finished. The second half turned out better than the first, but in the end that won’t be visible anyway. When putting the deck back in place it unfortunately broke in two after all. As a result there is a slightly wider caulking seam here and there in the middle, but thankfully that too disappears under the upper deck. It was quite a job, though.

Piet thought it looked neat, but pointed out that fitting a completely planked deck between the bulkheads without damage or breakage is practically impossible. Better to cut or saw the deck in two before planking, or simply plank it on the ship. I had in fact already cut the deck most of the way through before fitting it, hoping it would just about stay in one piece. Alas, cut a bit too deep, I think.
Piet and Pingu57 also thought it a bit of a pity that there is some difference in texture and colour between the two halves. There is, but I’m betting it won’t be that visible. For the upper deck, at any rate, I now know the right method: glue one plank at a time, and cut the deck in two beforehand.
